God's Omnipotence

God is omnipotent. Omnipotent means to have all the power. Almighty means the same thing, to have all of the power. There is not even an iota of power that is out of God's possession. Even all of our power is God's. We are borrowing it. In order to be omnipotent, two things must happen. First, all of the power in the universe must belong to you. Every ounce of power must be yours. Second, you must never loose any of that power. To be omnipotent means to have all of the power. If you were to no town even the slightest amount of power, you would not be omnipotent.

Some may say, "well I have the energy to do what I want. God doesn't have my energy," and that is false. God gave you your energy to run, to jump, to praise, and yes even to sin. He gave you your power to do whatever you want with it, but He can take it away at any time. Why can He take away power that He gave to you? Because of that. He gave it to you, but He did not give it away. We are using His power, but He did not surrender ownership of the power. It is all still His.

Because God is infinite, so is everything about Him. It is true to say that He has always been omnipotent. He has always had all of the power that ever was, ever is, and ever will be all at once. He can never loose power and His power can never diminish. He never grows tired or uses energy that could disappear. All of the power is in His hand and that is how it is. Because we are created, we cannot fully comprehend God's power. Something that is finite cannot understand something that is infinite. We must know and trust that God has all of the power all of the time and that never changes.

He must not be brought down to our level. Because He is omnipotent, He is that much greater than us and transcends us that much more.

Whenever someone is afraid of demons, I normally tell them this: "Don't worry about demons. They are lower than us in ranking. Demons are at the bottom, then angels, then us, then God." This is partially true. Yes, demons are just beneath angels because angels have God's favor, and humans are made in God's image so we have authority over them; but it was wrong of me to even put God on the list. Yes, God is above us, but He is so far above us that He transcends us. His superiority is far beyond our comprehension.

Some would say that it would be like comparing a butterfly to an angel, but that is untrue. Even though the distance between an angel and a butterfly is great, angels and butterflies are both created creatures. They both have that in common. They are both not God. As wide as the gap between them is, the gap is finite. The gap between angels and God is infinite. It is so great that there is no measurement for it. God transcends us all because He is Holy. He is as holy to angels as He is to butterflies and everything in between. God is transcendent above us.

He is so transcendent and holy because there is none like Him. Who else besides God possesses all of the power in existence? Who else but God distributes power out to all creation yet still has ownership of it all? Who else but God has the ability to create everything and not even loose power or grow tired? No one. There is no one like God; and as little as we can comprehend, we must respect and honor Him for being Holy. Until we can stop bringing God down to our level and start lifting Him up above us, we will never be able to grasp the gravity of God's holiness and glory. We must know that He is far beyond our comprehension in all ways.
