The Finished Work

In John 19:30, it says, "When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, 'It is finished,' and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit."

When Jesus said, "It is finished," He meant it. So often we try to look for a certain type of way of doing things. So often we try to work to earn God's love, when the truth is we should be working because God loves us! God's love was shown on the cross when He finished the deed and bought our salvation; but so many times we can get into a mindset that basically says, "I need to make sure that I am saved."

Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you do not need to go through any classes or do any special rituals. To say that you need to do more to be saved is to say that what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross was not enough. We cannot work out way into salvation, but it comes by grace. Galatians 2:21 says it perfectly. "I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

Rest assured that your salvation is sealed by the blood of Jesus Christ the moment you ask Him into your heart as your Lord and Savior and repent of your sins. Trust in 1 Peter 3:18. "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit."

Through Jesus, you can have total and complete salvation and forgiveness. There is nothing more that needs to be done. When Jesus said it is finished, He meant it.
