Teaching Prayer
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) If we begin to train up our youth in Christ now, they will keep these ways as they grow older. Trust me. I am living proof of that.
When you have a child that is seeking after God, we must train them up in the way that they must go. I am personally and specifically talking about prayer today. We must train up our children in the way of prayer. I am not saying teach them how to pray big fancy prayers or pray in public, but teach them to pray the desires of their heart. No one needs giant words to be heard by God. We should be teaching younger ones to pray and learn to ask God for things as much, if not more, then they ask men; and the rest will be taken care of over time. Let us turn to God and let us focus on Him to do all things. In order to do that, we must train our children to pray.
Mothers and fathers, give your children a turn to pray at the dinner table. Brothers and sisters, pray with your little siblings before bed every night, and give them a turn too. Aunts, uncles, and cousins, show your nieces, nephews, and cousins how to pray and ask them to pray with you. Friends and mentors, ask your little ones to pray with you. We must train up our youth to be a prayerful people; in that case, they learn to turn to God instead of themselves. Let us grow a generation of prayerful followers of Christ.
